The Truth About Fireflies Reviews

“Thank you NetGalley for my free copy in exchange for my honest review. I struggled with the rating for this one. The concept of the story was intriguing and there was plenty of good foreshadowing that kept me reading to find out exactly what happened. My issue was that some of the writing felt unrealistic, such as the way these teenagers talked and interacted, especially Brandon's inner voice (in the opinion of this mom of 3 boys). I know this is a teen/YA story, but it just did not feel as well written as it could have been. I was also confused how these two teenagers could be going into their senior years in a "small town" never having met people in their year/grade or never having been to restaurants that weren't new, etc. All in all the concept was good, but the execution fell short for me. I gave it 3 stars as I did stay engaged enough to finish the story, though the ending felt a tad hurried to me as well once the conflict was resolved.”
“This book was truly inspiring. Laurel went through so much and her journey from start to finish was nice to read about. Laurel went through things that nobody her age should have to go through, and although it took a while she came out on top. To me Brayden was very lost and didn’t really know how to handle a lot of things, but his growth in the end really made me happy to read about. I do wish we got a playlist because they are fun, especially in books where music is so popular. I felt as though there were some slow parts and some parts that moved to fast. I wish we got an epilogue or just more in the ending because it was kind of sudden. Overall I did enjoy this book and would recommend it to any young people struggling.”
