The Troop
ByPublisher Description
WINNER OF THE JAMES HERBERT AWARD FOR HORROR WRITING
“The Troop scared the hell out of me, and I couldn’t put it down. This is old-school horror at its best.” —Stephen King
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip—a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfire. But when an unexpected intruder stumbles upon their campsite—shockingly thin, disturbingly pale, and voraciously hungry—Tim and the boys are exposed to something far more frightening than any tale of terror. The human carrier of a bioengineered nightmare. A horror that spreads faster than fear. A harrowing struggle for survival with no escape from the elements, the infected…or one another.
Part Lord of the Flies, part 28 Days Later—and all-consuming—this tightly written, edge-of-your-seat thriller takes you deep into the heart of darkness, where fear feeds on sanity…and terror hungers for more.

“It’s been a while since I’ve read something this disturbing and disgusting.”
“Excellent horror. 😱”
“I thought this was gonna be more exciting than it was. The last 30% picked up steam so I gave it a 3.25 It wasn't a horrible book by any means but if you asked me to give you some horror recommendations this wouldn't cross my mind.”
“As someone who is incredibly squeamish about worms, this book seemed tailored to exploit that fear. And it did so amazingly. Even though there were passages in this book hat literally made me nauseous, I couldn’t put the book down. I picked the book up yesterday, and it was finished by 6:10 PM today.
The situation the characters were thrust into would have done me in after the first hour. So, to see the resilience and hope of these kids even in the face of inevitable and painful death was beautiful to see.
I think that is what draws me to the horror genre time and time again. Even though the circumstances may be unsurvivable, there is still a core of human resilience which keeps people moving forward. They may not emerge from this experience unscathed, but they are still able to live and breathe, even if the world around them has been altered forever in some essential way.”
