“I absolutely loved “I Capture the Castle” by Dodie Smith, but I wasn’t sure whether I liked her as a writer or just that story. I’m glad to say that I’m now definitely a fan of Dodie Smith as a writer. This book is set in London’s theater district in the 1920s and it’s just so warmly lit in my mind’s eye because of Smith’s writing. It’s a fairly lighthearted sort of coming-of-age novel with another very charming, likable first-person narrator. I enjoyed the plot but maybe even more so just the writing style and the kind of hazy nostalgic feeling it gave me. I’m happy now to know that I can look forward to reading more by her.”
