“although i liked many of the themes that yeats discusses in this collection of poems, and the way they are covered and explored, i found it really hard to follow and understand some poems (e.g. “The Gift of Harun Al-Rashid”), even after looking up for explanations and analyses.
the main topics are those of the cyclical nature of life, love, memory and history, aging and youth. some quotes are very touching. i think my favorite poems are:
- the tower
- nineteen hundred and nineteen
- the wheel
- leda and the swan
- among school children
- a man young and old”
