A broken bond. A dying land. A cat-and-mouse game that can only end in bloodshed.

Esha lost everything in the royal coup—and as the legendary rebel known as the Viper, she’s made the guilty pay. Now she’s been tasked with her most important mission to date: taking down the ruthless General Hotha.

Kunal has been a soldier since childhood. His uncle, the general, has ensured that Kunal never strays from the path—even as a part of Kunal longs to join the outside world, which has only been growing more volatile.

When Esha and Kunal’s paths cross one fated night, an impossible chain of events unfolds. Both the Viper and the soldier think they’re calling the shots, but they’re not the only players moving the pieces.

As the bonds that hold their land in order break down and the sins of the past meet the promise of a new future, both the soldier and the rebel must decide where their loyalties lie: with the lives they’ve killed to hold on to or with the love that’s made them dream of something more.

“I feel like this just fell flat for me, but the idea was great. The cat and mouse situation got a little dull for me after a while, it felt repetitive and there was no tension because it was obvious neither were truly trying to capture or hurt one another. The explanation of the world building with Jansa and Dharka felt a little confusing, and it was on such a big scale that we didn’t truly see how the conflict affected individual people on a smaller scale. Esha and Kunal fell flat for me, too. Esha was supposed to be this badass Viper but she didn’t really live up to that reputation, for me. She felt very surface level and not well developed. Kunal was better, but I still didn’t find him that engaging to follow. The twist about Kunal and Esha already knowing each other changed nothing for me, and I was expecting one of the two to be royal so that twist wasn’t surprising either. I don’t know, but I’m not looking forward to the following books.”
“❝Never greet a tiger at midnight, for they are the manifestations of your past misdeeds.❞ ✧˚ Writing Not complicated or high-fi but super easy to read which was exactly what I needed after my almost-slump. Especially the pace which was perfect. ✧˚ Plot I have to admit there wasnt much plot. Most of the focus was on character development and world building which was done really well in a way that I wasnt bored at all. Plus, Esha and Kunal’s banter was super enjoyablee. Some events were repetitive but I dont have any issues with that as they were funn regardless of the fact that they were repeated constantly. ✧˚ Characters °•Esha Our lovelyyy FMC who runs around assassinating people in a SAREE. I loved her the momenttt her pov started and she only kept getting better. Anddddd she loves mangoes! which is totallyyy not the real reason I like her °•Kunal Very indecisive which was surprisingly not annoying at all. Tbh, I didnt rlly like or dislike him, he was pretty ehh but not dumb so Yayy. ✧˚ Conclusion An easy, short and enjoyable read and definitelyyy worth the try for Esha.”
