“Flashy in its controversy, too many wholly unlikable characters, had me pissed the whole time, unsatisfying ending. Not at all one of JCO’s winner works. I did fly through the book, but was disappointed with where it left me. Alma is one of the most intolerable characters I have read in a long time. Flat characterization — made up of disgusting antisemitism and trauma. The ending was just stupid.”
