“An interesting psychological thriller, and understandably a classic. My biggest qualm was that I found after a certain point (maybe a third in), I could see where it was all going, who Ripley was, etc. and I lost interest.
I admit I am a bit disturbed by how much I related to Tom Ripley, considering he strongly resembles a sociopath. At the same time that's what made the novel so compelling. It's rare to have the story told from the perspective of the murderer, rarer still for an author to straddle the line between sympathetic and repulsive characterization so skillfully.
I would give it 3.5 stars if I could.”

“I don't think this book hit how it was supposed to (anticipation was built-up due to the many five-star reviews). I loved the overall plot, but the writing style wasn't engaging enough for me - I found myself feeling incredibly bored during scenes meant to elicit more emotion, I'm sure. It took me about a week or two to get into... far too long. At page 100, I finally felt some sense of excitement.
I'm guessing this will be a rare instance where I enjoy the movie more than the book. Already put the movie down on my "to-watch" list...”
