“It has taken me a few days to fully think on what I wanted to rate this book.
4 Stars - The overall story and plot of the book. It had me hooked by the 2.5 page prologue. The pacing was pretty good. But like I said, for the overall plot and story; aka - The Store randomly pops up out of nowhere basically, in a smaller towns (like dollar stores in real life). The Store is evil and starts taking over the entire town. Our main character tries to restore his small town and save his daughters. However . . .
2 Stars - Bently Little is a mini Stephen King. In most ways, that is okay, but what happens at the end of a Dallas training trip is just disgusting and only a sick mind can think of it and still continues to add it into the book. (Also, one of the most descriptive scenes in the entire book.) The normal weird "horror" elements is totally fine, but some things are similar to King and just plain messed up.
I was very conflicted on how to rate this, so I'm finally deciding on 3 stars total. It's a good medium between my two major thoughts. I haven't figured out if I want to try another book from this author. I think he is very good and sets up a book very well, but the morally wrong event at the end of this book throws me off. If I happen to find another book of his at a thrift store again, maybe I'll reach for it.”
