“Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. TJ Klune is one of my favorite authors and this was another good read. Burke is a dog who learns about life along the way. He is a dog who ends up with a family but can’t stay after the baby is born. He tries to do his best but he is still learning. He is always learning and makes friends and finds his human along the way.”

“Thank you to Tor publishing group for this ARC. This book wasn’t on my 2027 new releases radar but man am I glad it fell in my lap. This book will probably end up being one of my favorites of 2026. This is actually my first TJ Klune book that I’ve read and I can’t wait to read more. This book makes you feel all the feels.”

“Humans’ best friend just became more personified. This is the first book that I have read by TJ Klune, but I will definitely read more of his books. The overall presumption is what the dog's role is in our lives, especially when their lives are so short. Burke, our main character, loved a carefree life, especially when his mother told him they were like a star, which made him think he was immortal. However, after realizing he is not immortal as his mother had once told him, he has a crisis and decides that his reason for living is to help humans find a partner so he can be loved even after he dies. The overall book cover themes of grief and mortality, it really does a good job posing us the question that in our life, no matter how complex it is with all the adulting we have to deal with, such as having a job, social life, and eleven romantic relationships, we should try to find our happiness. Reading about Burke’s carefree life was a refreshing experience. It had some funny parts, like the times he went to the veterinarian, which were hilarious. But also, his quarrel with the cats and squirrels. As you read, the end will surprise you and leave you feeling. A huge thank you to TJ Klune, Tor Publishing Group, and NetGalley for the ARC.”

“This story was so hard to read through the TEARS in my eyes! Are you joking? This book was my introduction to TJ Klune, and I will thank the book gods forever for allowing me the chance to read this before it released. Please tell me their other books are just as impactful as this because it has set such an unbelievably high standard for me. Genuinely my favorite read of all time. I can’t. I’m buying a copy for everyone I know, my mom, my sister, my brothers, my dad, my boyfriend, his family, my friends, my coworkers… everyone. A previous book review I wrote said, “I’m a cat person!” I lied!! Two chapters in I was tearing up. By 20% I was full on sobbing already. Omg, I loved this so much. I usually have a lot of downtime to read at work, but I NEEDED to finish this at home, and thank God I did because I was a crying mess. I loved it so much. Any time we were at the dog park, I was having the time of my life in the story. So good!! And thanks to a dog named Melon, my negative thoughts about the word “but” have changed. I used to think “but” was only used as an argument and always negated what came before it, BUT thanks to Melon I realized it can be a neutral contrast word. Thank you, Melon! I already told my boyfriend we’re naming our next corgi Melon!”
