Publisher Description

THE UNFORGETTABLE NEW NOVEL FROM THE BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE SIGHT OF YOU

"People kept telling me it was impossible that, aged eighteen, I'd found the person I wanted to spend my life with. And yet, here we were."

Childhood sweethearts Neve and Jamie are inseparable from the moment they meet. Everyone knows they'll be together forever - that is, until tragedy strikes, and Jamie is torn from Neve's life.

One street away, Ash is hit by lightning. As he recovers, family members notice a drastic change in Ash, almost as though he is a different person.

"My whole life, there's only been one other person who's looked at me like that."

Years later, chance brings Neve and Ash together- and she is struck by his familiarity. He shares so many traits with Jamie, as if their souls are entwined.

Neve must ask herself whether she can love for a second time in the face of her grief. Is she ready for what life has to offer? And can lightning really strike twice?

The Spark Reviews

3.5
“I enjoyed the story, although slow to start with and not very captivating for me, the ending was unexpected and heartbreaking. Neve was a hard character for me to like, she should have seen a therapist a lot sooner! She also was unlikeable as she was very ‘woe is me’ about everything. Ash seemed unrealistic in the ‘perfect man’ way, he just forgave her straight away after no contact for 6 months? But I guess it was a heartwarming way to wrap up the story. Lara was a beautiful character and her ending did bring some tears. It was bitter sweet for Neve to realise that Lara was her true love from back then, not Jamie, and the heartbreaking reality that she couldn’t tell her and thank her for it all. The description of Neve sitting in the room she died in was beautifully sad. However, it was annoyingly just thrown in towards the end. I was expecting a bit of a rushed ending after that due to only have a few chapters left. The 6 month jump doesn’t help with the rushed feeling. Maybe this adds to the idea that life is fleeting and never slows down? I do think the story is about grief, how it can send you slightly mad, make you believe crazy theories and how it can affect the way you look at people and relationships, it’s all just hidden behind a love story. It is well written for the most part, Unfortunately the dialogue seemed unrealistic and disjointed to me. Especially the parts where Lara tells Neve her diagnosis and in turn when Neve tells her own Mother. I did however enjoy the flits back in time to add context to the ‘now’ parts of the story.”
“⭐️4.5 Loved this book! It focused more on friendship and grief than romance, which was a refreshing change. It was emotional and handled really well. Not quite a 5-star read for me because the main character frustrated me at times, but I still really enjoyed it! 💛”
