Publisher Description
Bank robberies should run like clockwork, right? If your name’s Parker, you expect nothing less. Until, that is, one of your partners gets too greedy for his own good. The four-way split following a job leaves too small a take for George Uhl, who begins to pick off his fellow heisters, one by one. The first mistake? That he doesn’t begin things by putting a bullet in Parker. That means he won’t get the chance to make a second. One of the darkest novels in the series, this caper proves the adage that no one crosses Parker and lives.

“Fluctuates between being one of the best books in the series and one of the worst.
What starts as a tense first act becomes a wild goose chase. Parker rarely gets the upper hand, and often acts a little too sentimental. I did enjoy the closeted bisexual villain, who was adamant that he was “totally not gay” while simultaneously talking about how much he preferred sleeping with men. The ending of this one kind of sucks, and it might be one of the more misogynistic of the Parker books. Donald E. Westlake took the brave step of being 1% less homophobic in exchange for being more misogynistic.
Some of Parker’s decisions in the back-half left me baffled. It doesn’t matter how you slice it: Parker taking pity on the person who wronged him is lame. Parker is at his best when he is unsentimental, uncaring. That’s why we love the guy.
So, yeah, mixed bag, but I could still see myself reading like 10 more of these.”
