“Immediately after finishing 28 Summers, I read this in one sitting while sitting on the beach (great ambiance for reading Elin Hilderbrand, by the way). I loved her writing in this novella, and overall enjoyed most of it. I was happy to see some questions answered, but I hated some of the answers!
I liked seeing about Fray and Leland, along with Cooper. I hope his 6th marriage works out better for him! By far my favorite part was seeing about Bess and Link. I loved when he said if he was fulfilling the destiny of their parents that’s fine, but he can’t just see her once a year. Go Link!! I also loved them talking about how unfair everything was for Mallory! I know she obviously agreed to the arrangement, but I feel so bad for her that she never got to have someone special. Jake was always getting jealous, and while she was mostly just waiting for him, he had a whole wife at home!
Now for what I didn’t love. I do enjoy Ursula’s character and like seeing her point of view, and I, of course, love seeing Jake’s point of view. I was so happy when they split up, because they are so toxic! And then at the end of the book they are going to start going out again?? Ugh! I also wish we got to see more of him mourning Mallory. I feel like it was so brushed off. It felt like he missed the cottage more than he missed her! I was so tired of him talking about dating again, and thinking about getting with the woman who replaced Mallory’s job as the English teacher (also that lady was so weird, she for sure wanted to get with Cooper so she could have Mallory’s cottage).
Overall glad I read it, but can’t believe Ursula and Jake are going on a date agin!!! Would love to see more Bess and Link though.”
“The short follow-up to my favorite Elin Hilderbrand novel, 28 Summers. This book left me feeling nostalgic and happy as it wrapped up the after math from the previous book.”
