Publisher Description

Ryan, Harley and Miles are very different people—the swimmer, the rebel and the nerd. All they’ve ever had in common is Isaac, their shared best friend.

When Isaac dies unexpectedly, the three boys must come to terms with their grief and the impact Isaac had on each of their lives. In his absence, Ryan, Harley and Miles discover things about one another they never saw before, and realize there may be more tying them together than just Isaac.

In this intricately woven story told in three parts, award-winning Australian author Will Kostakis makes his American debut with a heartwarming, masterfully written novel about grief, self-discovery and the connections that tie us all together.

“Not to hit another review with a "this was fine" but it truly was fine. I'll start with positive thoughts. Firstly I thought it was such a good way to portray grief across not only the main three characters (of which we learn of their grief in a more intimate setting) but side characters whose lives were also intertwined with Isaac. Second of all, I thought the characters were at least interesting to read about. Now with some negative thoughts. I didn't love the way this was written. I think it was an interesting attempt and in terms of portraying grief it did an excelent job, but by having three characters live the same series of events the same time parts of the book dragged. Yes, each character had individual experiences that diverted from the staple scenes (like being called into the headmasters office and the funeral and the crossoint at the cafe), it dampened my experience to read the same scene over again from a different point of view. Second of all is honestly just recency bias. Easily my least favorite section was Miles' (and my favorite was Ryan), but Miles was the POV that ended the book (rightfully so plot-wise). I didn't like how it was written like a script in terms of setting headers (or whatever those are called) but otherwise in prose except when he was watching a video? It just didn't mesh well with me. And because I didn't like this and it was the last thing I read it very much so dampened my experience as a reader. Same thing with Ryan. I liked Ryan's the best and he was first. So erm, unlucky!”
