The Serpent and the Wolf
ByPublisher Description
A “must-read” (C.J. Redwine, New York Times bestselling author) romantasy debut that combines high-stakes political intrigue and a steamy, slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance. Perfect for fans of Raven Kennedy and Thea Guanzon!
All her life, Vaasa Kozár has been sharpened into a blade.
After losing her mother—her only remaining parent—to a mysterious dark magic that has since awakened within her, Vaasa is certain death looms. So is her merciless brother, who aims to eliminate Vaasa as a threat to his crown. In one last political scheme, he marries her off to Reid of Mireh, a ruthless foreign ruler, in hopes that he can use her death as a rallying cry to finally invade Reid’s nation. All Vaasa has to do is die.
But she is desperate to live. Vaasa enters her new marriage with every intent to escape it, wielding the hard-won political prowess and combat abilities her late father instilled in her. But to her surprise, Reid offers her a deal: help him win the votes to rise in power, and she can walk free. In exchange, she will share his knowledge about the dark magic running through her veins—and help keep it at bay.
This proposal may be too good to refuse, yet Vaasa and Reid’s undeniable attraction threatens to break the rules of their arrangement. As her brother’s lethal machinations take form, everything is at stake: Vaasa must learn to trust her new husband, but how can she especially when their perfect political marriage begins to feel like the real thing? In The Serpent and the Wolf, Vaasa and Reid must confront deadly betrayals, unravel the enigma of her dark magic, and decide whether their growing bond is their greatest strength—or the ultimate risk—in a world where love and power are the most dangerous games of all.

“Was the beginning really predictable? Yes. Were the vibes immaculate? Also yes. Was the world pretty darn cool? Oh yes. Was I loving this found family, healing journey with an action packed middle and end? Absolutely yes.
I really love how Vaasa's character grew, yeah she was awesome from the getgo but you also see her accepting her fear and anger and becoming a better person. I also like how she's believably good with a dagger. Like not amazing, but decent, and for me that made sense.
And that ending was actual insanity! I swear my neck is sore from that whiplash! I literally thought Mathjin was going to get away with it I was so sure!! I was like noooooo they just proclaimed their love and now he'll be betrayed! But no! She's kidnapped, she escapes! They're in a battle, they win! Reid dies, Reid lives! She's kidnapped again, he's headman!! WHIPLASH! Ahhhh I need book 2. Get your girl Reid!! Vengeance!!!!”

If you're looking for a fantasy packed with witches, powerful clans, political intrigue, and an MMC who radiates "touch her and die" and "where is my wife?" energy, then The Serpent and the Wolf is definitely worth checking out.
This was such a fun, fast-paced read. The story wastes no time pulling you into a world filled with magic, shifting alliances, and plenty of secrets. There was always something happening, which kept the momentum going, and I found myself eager to see how everything would unfold.
The political intrigue added a lot to the story without becoming overwhelming, and I really enjoyed seeing the different clans and the power struggles between them. The romance is a satisfying slow burn with just enough spice to keep things interesting, and the chemistry between the main characters was one of my favourite parts.
I also have to give a shout-out to the audiobook. The narration was fantastic and really brought the characters and world to life. It made the experience even more immersive.
Overall, this was an entertaining romantasy with strong characters, an engaging plot, great banter, and just the right balance of action, romance, and magic. If witches, political games, protective love interests, and fast-paced fantasy are your thing, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try.”
“literally fantastic! the banter, the tension, the enemies to lovers, Vaasa as a BADASSS - there was nothing about this that i didn’t like. what an epic ending!!! ill be immediately diving into the next one”
