Publisher Description

Human or vampire, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always – always – guard your heart.

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

But winning won’t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown… and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home. And Raihn may understand her more than anyone – but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall, in a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love.

The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in a new series of heart-wrenching romance, dark magic, and bloodthirsty intrigue, perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“This book had me in its grip from the beginning. I’m always wary of vampire books being far too similar. This book was not that for me. I would describe this book in comparison to “The Hunger Games” with all of the different trials the main character has to endure to be a “victor.” Very similar cutthroat feel. The characters develop and grow throughout the book, and even minor characters have your heart in a way. My favorite character was Vincent, which may be controversial, but I enjoyed how his character switched from a viscous king to a loving father throughout the chapters. You really don’t understand his motives until the very end and they leave you sad and angry. What I did not expect was the ending AT ALL. I had to put the book down for a moment. I was expecting a totally different outcome. I love when an author is able to completely shred the outcomes I think are coming and leave me gasping. I am a little unsure of how there are FOUR other books in this series, but I definitely plan on reading the second book in the near future. I recommend this book for someone who loves a romantasy, action packed, vampire world, slow burn book! 🧛‍♂️ 🔥 🌘”
“i think after acotar & throne of glass i find it hard not to compare fantasy books to those absolute masterpieces, to which none seem to come close. however i did enjoy this - the vampires were a nice change to the usual characters i read & i already am invested in oraya & raihn's relationship. i would say though that i felt the ending was a little rushed, i think it could've been made a bit longer. undecided on whether to read the rest of the series!”
“‘The Serpent and the Wings of Night’ - a bloody phenomenal book. Emphasis on the bloody, it’s brutal. The writing, the characters, the plot, the pacing, the tension; basically everything in this book is done to absolute perfection. The relationship dynamics are so layered and complex. The “good" characters often have to do questionable things for the greater good, or simply to survive. The "evil" characters are often much more complex than just being bad and power-hungry. They have depth to them, and Carissa excellently managed to "humanize" them. The characters are flawed and make mistakes or bad choices, but it makes them so much more relatable. The father-daughter relationship between Victor and Oraya is so heart wrenching. Raihn and Oraya are unmatched. The banter, the push and pull, and their chemistry was so good. I don’t want to go into the Kejari tournament too much. You just have to experience it. And then that ending…OMG. The last 20% of the book was just this crazy roller coaster of emotions, betrayal, plot twists, and shocking revelations. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE where the relationship between Rain and Oraya is heading - they are enemies, but totally in love with each other. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a darker fantasy adventure, full of deadly trials, murders, and vicious vampires, along with an epic slow-burn romance. Whilst I’m dying to get into the next book there is a novella to read before the sequel! Do yourself a favour and start this series now!”
