Surprised Face with Open Mouth“I would like to start off this review by letting it be known I was very much struggling to get through a reading slump. I have not felt like reading at all, but I’m so glad i did. This is my first ever Tartt book & I will need to look into more of her work cause this story had my jaw on the floor. The story follows our main character Richard Papen & his reminiscing during his time at a New England college. Our buddy Richard becomes involved with a cult of pretentious teens running on daddy’s money & gets pulled into some serious situations. As the truth is revealed we understand just how naive, innocent, & desperate our main character truly is. The references to art, music, literature, & history really contribute to making this story great. The storyline flowed & it was genuinely poetic. The ending went in a totally different direction that I was predicting. Overall, I enjoyed this story very much.”
Thinking Face“I mean wow. At first, it was slow (ish) but not in the way that books are typically slow. I was intrigued at every point. And then wow. When the first major plot point was revealed, holy shit. The writing is so good. Such a unique plot!!!! I loved it. If I had to complain, I’d say the end was maybe a tiny bit dragged out? But then again, when I write that, I find myself not agreeing with it. Just a seriously solid book. YAY!”
“sometimes i was so bored i thought about not reading further, and after the next page i couldn’t tear myself away from the book…a truly unique experience.”
