The seventeen-year-old twins are powerful mediums, just like their mother—Violet can open the veil between life and death, and Edie can cross into the spirit world. But their abilities couldn’t save them when their mother died and their father threatened to commit them to a notorious asylum.

But when Violet’s act goes terribly wrong one night, Edie learns that the dark spirit responsible for their mother’s death has crossed into the land of the living. As they investigate the identity of her mysterious final client, they realize that someone is hunting mediums…and they may be next.Only by trusting in one another can the twins uncover a killer who will stop at nothing to cheat death.

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“I absolutely loved The Second Death of Edie and Violet Bond. It’s a fast-paced, atmospheric YA fantasy with a supernatural mystery at its heart, but what really makes it shine is how well it captures the realities of the time period. Amanda Glaze brings 19th-century California to life, highlighting the lack of rights women had—how a single man’s word could be enough to have them institutionalized. The way she weaves in issues like women’s suffrage, birth control access, and the horrifying conditions of asylums adds so much depth to the story. And honestly, it all feels painfully relevant given everything happening right now in the U.S. with abortion bans. That connection hit me hard. At its core, this is also a story about sisterhood. Edie and Violet’s bond is incredibly layered, shaped by their past and the difficult choices they have to make. The supporting cast is just as compelling—every character, no matter how small their role, feels fully realized. There’s even a bit of romance, and it’s handled in a way that doesn’t take over the story but adds just the right amount of warmth. I went with the audiobook for this one, and it was such an engaging listen. Between the immersive setting, strong characters, and supernatural twists, I flew through it. Amanda Glaze has created something really special here, and I can’t recommend it enough.”
Slightly Smiling Face“This book may appear to be a YA murder mystery on the surface, but at its core, it is a well-researched historical fiction novel that highlights how the Spiritualist movement of the late 1800s gave women a voice in a world determined to silence them. For me, it was a fascinating introduction to a piece of history I knew nothing about and emphasized just how far women have had to go to speak out against injustices committed against them in this country. I really connected with Edie’s character. Protective of Violet, she feels the weight of the world on her shoulders, determined to keep her sister safe—even at the cost of her own well-being and their relationship. Her growth throughout the book hit me in the feels more than once. Overall, I enjoyed this book more than I expected. While the beginning felt a little slow and somewhat predictable, the pace picked up in the second half, surprising me more than once. I highly recommend it to fans of feminist historical fiction and lighter mysteries. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75”
“Man, this was so good. I loved the magic system with the herbs. That was really cool. In the authors note it says that Evie and Violet were inspired by real people and Laura De Force was a real person. That’s so interesting and I’d love to learn more about them. Going to do a little dive.”
Thumbs Up“Szczerze myślałam, że będzie to coś lepszego. Dobrze się przy tej książce bawiłam, ale zabrakło tego czegoś.”
