Publisher Description

Fate and friendship brought Horace, Rumi, Keza, and Aliyah together in Rumi's sentient self-propelling wagon. They seek the forest haunting Aliyah's dream, hoping for answers about the elf's past and unique abilities—but first, they need to traverse a world haunted by Fragments, dangerous shards that can possess travellers.

Their journey has brought them to Alleaze, a coastal city from which they hope to book passage across the ocean. But Alleaze's regular life has stopped, giving way to the excitement of the Sea Spirit Festival, a weeks-long event. Forcefully grounded, the Wagon crew is more than happy to partake in the local festivities, brimming with games, seaside delicacies, and legends about the Bay.

But the Festival is more than one big celebration: it is a crucial time during which the Bay's Spirit guides its residents to their new life path and chooses a Storm Catcher, a divine hero meant to revitalize the Spirit's strength.

When the Festival winds down and no Storm Catcher has been chosen, panic washes over Alleaze and the Wagon crew finds itself embroiled in the subsequent chaos. In order to help Alleaze find its local hero and be allowed to sail out, they will need to confront the truth behind the legend of the Sea Spirit—and survive it.

Slightly Smiling Face“Once again, Claudie Arseneault has created a cozy yet thrilling episodic continuation of the adventure Horace, Aliyah, Rumi, and Keza have ventured on. This story features Horace being adorably talkative, excitable, curious Horace in a new city with new customs and rules. But there are some exciting twists along the way, and we're left with a few more questions than answers. Honestly, some of the things I love about this book are how easy and quick it is to read, yet full of kinship, epic adventure, and, of course, incredible diversity. There's a continuing, over-arcing plot, but each book has its own featured story. And the characters always want to learn and improve themselves! It reminds me of episodic adventures I read as a kid, except so much more diverse. When I read this series I'm perpetually left with a feeling of comfort, and it's been an honor and joy to be an ARC reader for it. I recommend this series to anyone who likes a tale full of found family, fantasy adventure, and queerness. I can't wait to dive back in when book 4 comes around!”
“I love how in each of these novellas we get to explore more of this exciting world, and this was no exception. I look forward to the next one, especially since it seems to be take place on the ocean.”
