The Ritual by Adam Nevill digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Now a Netflix Original Movie!

The Ritual is Adam Nevill's horror novel depicting a group of friends lost in a remote wilderness in Sweden where something supernatural lurks.

When four old University friends set off into the Scandinavian wilderness of the Arctic Circle, they aim to briefly escape the problems of their lives and reconnect with one another. But when Luke, the only man still single and living a precarious existence, finds he has little left in common with his well-heeled friends, tensions rise. With limited experience between them, a shortcut meant to ease their hike turns into a nightmare scenario that could cost them their lives. Lost, hungry, and surrounded by forest untouched for millennia, Luke figures things couldn't possibly get any worse.

But then they stumble across an old habitation. Ancient artifacts decorate the walls and there are bones scattered upon the dry floors. The residue of old rites and pagan sacrifice for something that still exists in the forest. Something responsible for the bestial presence that follows their every step. As the four friends stagger in the direction of salvation, they learn that death doesn't come easy among these ancient trees . . .

Thinking Face“My review is low and it might be the cause of watching the movie before the book as I did not know at the time that it was an adaption. I will say that the first half of the book I read in such a breeze as I felt more into it. I like how there were similarities between the movie and the book, but we all know that the book has more of the descriptive manner towards each characters expression and their inner thoughts. I really enjoy reading about that and getting more depth to these characters. It was the second half that I thought was too long. There were times where I’m just like “okay you are just describing this the same way you did 50 pages beforehand, 20 pages before beforehand.” I did enjoy the concept overall and was very pleased with it. I just wish I knew it was a book before watching the movie.”
Expressionless Face“Not for me. short chapters and interesting scenes but felt very monotone making it sort of boring even at its most jaw dropping parts. It took me longer than it should have to finish this book. I haven’t seen the movie but I feel like it would be better in that format from how it is written 😐👍🏻”
“This book could've been 200 pages shorter. Honestly, this was a pretty awful horror book. In the beginning, I liked it. Wandering into an unmapped swedish forest, finding pagan ruins, some type of creature hunting them. In theory, I should've liked this book but it just derailed. I think if it kept it simple and made the forest some type of neverending loop where you end up in the same place or keep walking but getting nowhere would've been better. This book just sucked. I was going to watch the movie after reading the book but nevermind. If I don't like this book then I'm definitely not gonna like the movie”
Expressionless Face“It’s so bad. The characters are god awful, it’s sexist from beginning to end, it’s essentially two long books frankensteined into one mess, and somehow boring on top of it all”
