“I read The 7-10 Split first and unfortunately didn't enjoy it, but The Relationship Mechanic was recommended everywhere on Instagram and TikTok, so I really wanted this one to be the book that changed my mind about the series. Sadly, it still didn't quite work for me.
I actually liked Jessica and Vini individually, but the romance itself just wasn't there for me. Nothing ever went deep enough. They basically just had sex and it never felt like they were genuinely getting to know each other or building an emotional connection. We're told they're developing feelings, but I didn't really see it.
Honestly, I think this would have worked much better as a fling rather than a romantic relationship. If they'd eventually gone their separate ways and reflected on their time together as something special that they'd always cherish, I would have found that much more believable. Instead, Jessica suddenly deciding to stay in Peace Blossom (a place she had no desire to stay) for Vini made absolutely no sense to me. There simply wasn't enough development between them to justify such a huge decision.
I really didn't like how much Ava was involved. I expected her to be a much smaller part of this book, but unfortunately she's back creating unnecessary, immature drama. Ava was insufferable in the first book and she clearly hasn't changed and the fact she's the main cause of their drama and the reason they have to sneak around as grown adults is wild to me. Honestly, pretty much everyone in this series seems to act more like teenagers than adults in their twenties.
That said, there were things I enjoyed. I liked Jessica and Vini as individual characters, some of the side characters were decent, and there were definitely cute moments but I wish we'd gotten more scenes where they actually talked and connected instead of immediately ending up in bed together.”
“This book was chosen for me, and I was excited to read it. Overall, it was a slow burn and I feel like the ending was predictable. There was nothing interesting to the plot or the writing style. I still enjoyed it enough to finish though.”
