Publisher Description

June Hur, critically acclaimed author of The Silence of Bones and The Forest of Stolen Girls, returns with The Red Palace—a third evocative, atmospheric historical mystery perfect for fans of Courtney Summers and Kerri Maniscalco.

To enter the palace means to walk a path stained in blood...

Joseon (Korea), 1758. There are few options available to illegitimate daughters in the capital city, but through hard work and study, eighteen-year-old Hyeon has earned a position as a palace nurse. All she wants is to keep her head down, do a good job, and perhaps finally win her estranged father's approval.

But Hyeon is suddenly thrust into the dark and dangerous world of court politics when someone murders four women in a single night, and the prime suspect is Hyeon's closest friend and mentor. Determined to prove her beloved teacher's innocence, Hyeon launches her own secret investigation.

In her hunt for the truth, she encounters Eojin, a young police inspector also searching for the killer. When evidence begins to point to the Crown Prince himself as the murderer, Hyeon and Eojin must work together to search the darkest corners of the palace to uncover the deadly secrets behind the bloodshed.

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“4.25 ⭐️ This was such a fun book!! The main couple was very cute and I enjoyed how the author wrote their characters. Every development/conflict in their relationship felt natural in the story and note forced which is refreshing in the modern romance market. The mystery was also excellently plotted and executed.”
Thumbs Up“Loved the mystery and the setting! Would recommend if you want something fast paced and suspenseful. It was a nice palette cleanser that prevented my book hangover (read onyx storm before this one…if you know you know). It did the job well :)”
“✨✨✨June Hur does it once again ✨✨✨ This story kept me on my toes, had me deciphering clues, paying attention to all details to figure out who committed this murder and why. The characters were so well developed that from page one you are hooked in and you can truly picture everything she writes. It’s truly eye opening to see how the dynamics of Confucian rules where men and women must act complicate everything. Baek Hyeon is a palace nurse who came from nothing really and worked extremely hard to gain the status she now holds. Hyeon, like most daughters, tries desperately to gain the respect and approval from her father with her status. That is until a massacre happens and she feels inclined to have the woman who is at the front of these murders given her innocence back. Hyeon teams up with Eojin, a prodigy who is an inspector, to find out the truth and bring justice to Nurse Jeongsu. 💯 recommend!!! The details in the murder scenes, characters and the clues left to pick up are absolutely amazing imagery. I had the “shivers” a few times reading this and picturing what I was reading.”
