“I could not bring myself to really "get into this book." The author wrote this book in a way that distanced the reader from the main character whom he often simply referred to as "the youth." It was hard to feel sympathetic to this character and I often found myself frustrated by his hot and cold actions. The character was often a passive character who watched the action instead of engaging in the action himself. The biggest saving grace of this book was that it was only a hundred twenty eight pages long. I know it's a classic, but I don't really understand its overall value as an "endearing work of literature."”
