The Quest for the Tree Kangaroo

By Sy Montgomery & Nic Bishop
The Quest for the Tree Kangaroo by Sy Montgomery & Nic Bishop digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

A 2007 Sibert Honor Book

It looks like a bear, but isn’t one. It climbs trees as easily as a monkey— but isn’t a monkey, either. It has a belly pocket like a kangaroo, but what’s a kangaroo doing up a tree? Meet the amazing Matschie’s tree kangaroo, who makes its home in the ancient trees of Papua New Guinea’s cloud forest. And meet the amazing scientists who track these elusive animals.

“There's reason this title has won so many awards. The photography is stunning. Rather than offering some dry facts about the rare tree kangaroo, the author details the expedition of a group of conservationists to find and track the animal. We learn about it, but also what it takes to become a scientist who does this work, the village traditions and people of Papua New Guinea, and the difficult circumstances which make the work they do so difficult and amazing. The story exemplifies how teams work.”
