The Queen's Rising

By Rebecca Ross
The Queen's Rising by Rebecca Ross digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

From Rebecca Ross, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Divine Rivals, comes a lush, sweeping debut romantasy about an outcast who finds herself bound to a disgraced lord and entangled in his plot to overthrow the king. Perfect for fans of This Woven Kingdom and The Shadows Between Us!

When her seventeenth summer solstice arrives, Brienna desires only two things: to master her passion and to be chosen by a patron. While some at the renowned Magnalia House in Valenia seem to be naturally gifted at one of the five passions—art, music, dramatics, wit, or knowledge—Brienna struggled to find hers.

Then, Brienna’s greatest fear comes true: She is left without a patron.

Months later, her life takes an unexpected turn when a disgraced lord—the charming Cartier Évariste—offers her patronage. When Brienna reluctantly accepts, she quickly learns that there is much more to Cartier’s story. He’s part of a dangerous plot to overthrow the king of a rival land and restore the rightful queen, and her magic, to the throne. With war on the horizon, Brienna must choose a side. Can she help her patron without betraying the world she knows?

Don't miss the thrilling sequel, The Queen's Resistance!

  • Tutor x Student: Brienna must be caught up to speed on the revolution by Cartier, the charming man who is serving as her patron.
  • Forbidden Romance: There is a light forbidden element to Brienna’s relationship with Cartier.
  • Politically Complex: Inspired by Renaissance France, this read blends political intrigue with a touch of magic.
  • Revolution: Brienna must choose a side—revolution or the world she knows.

The Queen's Rising Reviews

3.5
“After LOVING some of Rebecca Ross’s more recent works, I decided to try some of her backlist. It doesn’t seem fair to compare this book to Wild Reverence, but here we are. This is not a bad book. It’s beautifully written (of course!), but it is pretty predictable. This felt like a pretty standard YA romantic fantasy novel. My main issue with the book is the relationship between Cartier and our FMC. Ole boy is creeping me out. Another thing the bothered me was the passage of time and how quickly some of the relationships developed. I never felt like I had a good grip on how much time had passed at any point of the book.”
“It was a good book. Nothing groundbreaking or jaw dropping. But it certainly was heart warming and i had a good time.”
