“Incredible timing on my part really to wrap this up right as America celebrates its 250th birthday. Someone presented this in a discussion as their left field pick for ""the great American novel"" and I can see why! Coover writes with a scathing, yet imaginative vision of American history, a landscape where Uncle Sam is a reincarnating spirit and Richard Nixon is detrimentally horny and the nation clambers to watch its dissidents be destroyed with bloodlust. Nice to read something from then that feels this clear-eyed about the America we see in 2026. It's a phenomenal read, brimming with details that I didn't even realize I remembered until they wrapped back around. I'm greatly looking forward to rereading it in the future to appreciate its unity and richness.”
