Publisher Description

Winterson enfolds her seventh novel within the world of computers, and transforms the signal development of our time into a wholly human medium. The story is simple: an e-mail writer called Ali will compose anything you like, on order, provided you're prepared to enter the story as yourself and risk leaving it as someone else. You can be the hero of your own life. You can have freedom just for one night. But there is a price, and Ali discovers that she, too, will have to pay it.

The PowerBook reinvents itself as it travels from London to Paris, Capri, and Cyberspace, using fairy tales, contemporary myths, and popular culture to weave a story of failed but requited love.

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“(Will probably redo this review later on because I have a really bad headache currently) Jeanette Winterson's prose is the perfect blend of simplicity and beauty, easy to get through and wonderfully satisfying to the senses. I felt like I wasn't quite lucid enough to work through some of the ideas (I had too much caffeine while reading and it screwed with my comprehension) but the ideas I did end up processing were very distinctive and presented in ways I couldn't have thought of myself. The creativity in the stories mixed with their cohesiveness really showcased her genius and I really truly enjoyed the greyness and mystery in the characters' morals and personalities.”
Slightly Smiling Face“Winterson delivers every time! Always grateful for having read oranges are not the only fruit, as it introduced me to Winterson and her written worlds.”
