Publisher Description

“One of the most iconic British fictional detectives of the 21st century . . . a delight.” —Daily Mail

No fingerprints. No weapon. No witnesses. Can DS Cross prove it was murder?

When a young woman is found dead – with no fingerprints, no weapon, and no witnesses –the Bristol Crime Unit is ready to close the case as suicide, especially after the coroner cites the victim’s long history of drug abuse. But her mother is convinced it was murder, saying that her daughter had been clean and sober for over two years.

DS Cross is determined to defy his bosses and re-open the case, even if it costs him his career. Soon he is mired in a labyrinth of potential suspects – but can he solve the case before his superiors shut it down for good?

The Patient Reviews

“This was my first book in the DS Cross series, and I am being honest when I say I could barely put this book down. Unlike other police procedural’s which can sometimes be very dry in an all-about-the-case type of way, this book had so much emotional depth to it. Yes, there was a lot about the case with its surprising plot twists, but it was so much more than that. We get to read a lot about George Cross himself as a detective on the spectrum, and how he navigates his adult life. It was heart warming to see his friendships bloom, and how both he and those around him compromise silently. Honestly, all of the main characters in this story were really likable. I will be going back to read the first two books to get some more back story on everyone, and I’ll be reading all of the other books in this series as well. This is a great police procedural and I am a fan! The Patient managed to surprise me at times, as I treated everyone as a suspect, and this book even made me emotional at moments (the last paragraph to this book got me). Thank you so much Atlantic Crime / Grove Atlantic for a gifted physical copy in exchange for an honest review!”
