The Pale White by Chad Lutzke digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

*Winner of the 2019 This Is Horror Awards 'Novella of the Year'*

A coming-of-age tale of revenge and survival that explores a friendship and the desperate measures taken to ensure they stay united, held together by the scars that bind them.

After being held against their will in a house used for trafficking, three girls plan their escape.

Alex: A hardened goth-punk who's convinced she's a vampire with a penchant for blood.
Stacia: A seventeen-year-old raised by an alcoholic mother, her fellow captives the only family she's ever truly had.
Kammie: The youngest of the three—a mute who finds solace in a houseplant.

But does life outside the house offer the freedom they'd envisioned? Or is it too late, the scars too deep?

This contemporary Suspense Thriller / Horror novella with an all-female cast is the perfect read for fans of Robert R. McCammon, Stephen King, and Jack Ketchum.

The Pale White Reviews

3.5
“that ending is too good to be true. I'm too damaged to believe it. I think we were tricked guys.”
“I don’t think this was horror nor was it very interesting? The way it was written was clearly by man and felt super dated in the way some things were described ( I.e. ‘sitting Indian style’ ) I’m unlikely to pickup anything else by this author.”
“Solid novella, sort of a thriller. The experience was similar to watching a well-made movie with themes of surviving sexual assault and all of that trauma as a found family. The prose was a bit too flowery on occasion but that's just my taste. The MC's personality came off a bit pretentious - if that was the intention, I have no criticism. Lutzke pulled it off pretty well. Also liked the connection between the girls. Without going into spoilers, the characters had a bit of a lucky strike. The whole thing's bittersweet, heavy on the sweet. Personally, I think that's nice, given the already dark subject matter. I'd rather not fall into acute depression because an author's way too into torture p*rn, but if you prefer darker realism and hopelessness, this novella isn't for you.”
“Just a great book. Very short. Heartbreaking but will leave you in tears by then end in the very best way.”
