Seven years ago, Maeve Abenthy lost her world, her father, even her name. Desperate to escape the stain of her father’s crimes, she lives under a fake name, never staying in one place long enough to put down roots.

Then she receives a mysterious letter with four impossible words Your father was innocent.Your father was innocent.

To uncover the truth, she poses as an apprentice for the Otherwhere Post, where she’ll be trained in the art of scriptomancy—the dangerous magic that allows couriers to enchant letters and deliver them to other worlds. But looking into her father’s past draws more attention than she’d planned.

Her secretive, infuriatingly handsome mentor knows she’s lying about her identity, and time is running out to convince him to trust her. Worse, she begins to receive threatening letters, warning her to drop her investigation—or elseor else. For Maeve to unravel the mystery of what happened seven years ago, she may have to forfeit her life.

The Otherwhere Post Reviews

“This book was excellent! It has been a while since I have read a dark academia and this has to be one of the best ones I’ve read yet. The world building was excellent and the magic system was so different! It definitely gave me vibes of Epic Mickey. If you have played this game you know the “magic system” revolves around a paint brush and how this paint brush can create creatures to protect our protagonist in the game. This book uses the same magic system but instead of a brush it is through writing letters and scribing. I adored the way the story developed. How we got to know our main character Maeve who is trying to uncover the mystery of who might be the sender of this anonymous letter she received claiming that her father is innocent. Maeve’s father was incriminated for burning down The Written Doors which is the only method to cross between worlds. Throughout the story we see our protagonist grow into a daring, clever and determined character. I was rooting for her from beginning to end! Also I loved our secondary characters and how they were always so supportive and loving towards our girl Maeve! This story also has a bit of romance which was perfect!! It was a slow-burn and I loved how it added to the story and didn’t take away from the main plot! This story was full of suspense and adventure and I loved every second of it. I couldn’t stop turning the pages to see what happened next! The last 5 chapters were so intense and I didn’t want it to end. The ending was absolutely perfect and exactly what our protagonist needed to heal her heart! This was such a good book and you should definitely add it to your 2026 TBR!”
