Publisher Description

All bets are off when Little Miss Sunshine and her sister's grumpy best friend learn to play nice.

Luna Reyes moved to the US with a dream: to prove herself to her family. After her older sister returns to Manila, Luna is determined to get through college on her own, despite her parents' doubts and her insecurities. She doesn't need a keeper—especially not her sister's best friend. Not when he's been a jerk to her since they met.

Gabe Martins has one goal: to build a stable life for himself. He has no patience for relationships—except when it comes to his best (and only) friend. So even though he wants nothing to do with Luna, he considers it his duty to check in on her. Sterling's too small a town not to run into her anyway.

One text turns into a phone call, and soon, they're going on a road trip without killing each other. It turns out he's got a sweet side she always wanted, and she's the bright spot he never thought he needed.

But with their goals at stake, will they go all in for a chance at true love?

The Odds of Happily Ever After is a dislike to friends to lovers contemporary romance with a simmering slow burn and a dash of spice. It is the second novel in the Reyes Siblings series but can be read as a standalone.

The Odds of Happily Ever After Reviews

4.0
“4.5 ⭐️ The Odds of Happily Ever After is a heartwarming contemporary romance that captures the journey of Luna to independence and adulthood. Luna is a college student, and Gabe is a university professor, who happens to be her sister’s best friend. This book brings together a slow-burn romance that takes its time to unravel but delivers so well. We follow Luna from her freshman year in college at Sterling to her senior year, exploring her journey of self-discovery and proving her worth to her family, especially her parents. Luna's long-time crush on Gabe simmers for years, with Gabe initially seeing her as nothing more than a friend. Notably, although Gabe is a professor at Luna's university, she is not one of his students. When Gabe finally realizes his feelings for Luna, he falls hard and shows the sweetest, most attentive side, making her his priority. The slow-burn romance is notable, with the "kilig" moments kicking in around the 50% mark. The tropes of age-gap romance and the classic grumpy x sunshine dynamic are prevalent. While age-gap relationships can be tricky to execute, it was pulled off suitably, steering clear of anything that might make the reader cringe. Instead, a mature exploration of these tropes was delivered. I enjoyed the integration of text message exchanges and video calls, which added a modern touch to the storytelling. There are deeper themes such as grief, parent abandonment, self-acceptance, and the heavy expectations placed on children by their parents. This book also portrays Filipino values, such as close family ties. Gabe is a Brazilian and part of the story has also shown his culture. Luna’s care for her grandmother while she was sick and dying is a relatable moment for me, and it further cements Luna as a character I root for. TOoHEA is the second book in the Reyes Siblings series, and this was written by a Filipina author. If you're a fan of slow-burn romances with depth, I highly recommend grabbing a copy when it's released on October 22nd!”
Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes““The Odds of Happily Ever After” by Anj Miranda The second book of the Reyes sibling series which revolves around the middle child named ‘Luna” finding her worth in an environment she knows little to nothing about while at the same time living up to the expectations setup for her. Gabe Martins on the other hand is an academe from Luna’s university that only wants one thing: to build a stable life for himself given that he only has himself to count on. Except for his best friend Tala. The story in an adventure full of hope and a spring of nostalgia for both characters showing a lot resilience and introspection towards the idea of “being left behind”. The book resonates with me in a cultural level. As a Filipino myself, the family dynamics of the Reyes family and the hospitality of Luna is well highlighted as the story unfolds. Reading a contemporary romance novel with an age-gap theme will never “not” be cringey for me. But it will be hypocritical for me to say that I did not enjoy it. The first 180 pages is just your typical slow-burn extravagant until you realize your halfway through the book and suddenly you’re thrilled with the progression between Luna and Gabe’s relationship. The writing of the book is easy and aligns with its contemporary theme. I think it’s the first time I’ve seem an author use “girlie-pop” and get away with it. Surprisingly, my favorite line from the book did not come from both the main characters. It’s from Gabe’s father, “How can you believe in love when you know it doesn’t always last?” “Not all love is meant to last a lifetime. It takes work and commitment. Your mother and I, we put in both, but not at the same time. We made our choices, but we chose differently from one another. Our love ending doesn’t mean I won’t find it elsewhere—or that you won’t find it at all” Overall, the book is a fun and lighthearted slow-burn which a pint of spice. Honestly, the sensual chapters is beginner friendly and. I’ve read worse. I would recommend it to someone finding a light read after something extremely dramatic or perhaps you came from something you DNF. Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕/5”
