The Nameless Restaurant

By Tao Wong
The Nameless Restaurant by Tao Wong digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

There is a restaurant in Toronto.

Its entrance is announced only by a simple, unadorned wooden door, varnished to a beautiful shine but without paint, hidden beside dumpsters and a fire escape. There is no sign, no indication of what lies behind the door.

If you do manage to find the restaurant, the décor is dated and worn. Homey, if one were to be generous.

The service is atrocious, the proprietor a grouch. The regulars are worse: silent, brooding, and unfriendly to newcomers. There is no set menu, alternating with the whim and whimsy of the owner. The selection of wine and beer is sparse or non-existent at times, and the prices for everything outrageous.

There is a restaurant in Toronto that is magically hidden, whose service is horrible, but whose food is divine.

This is the story of the Nameless Restaurant.

From the bestselling author of The System Apocalypse and A Thousand Li comes The Nameless Restaurant, a cozy cooking fantasy novella perfect for fans of Travis Baldree's Legends & Lattes and Junpei Inuzuka's Restaurant to Another World.

“What a delight to read. The detail of the cooking process and the love that is put into the descriptions is amazing. We learn a little about the patrons of this restaurant (not everyone is normal). A great quick read.”
“"There is a restaurant in Toronto that is magically hidden, whose service is horrible, and whose food is divine." This is a cozy little slice-of-life novella about a single night in a magical restaurant. It's a slow-paced descriptive read that you shouldn't do hungry, the food descriptions will leave you starving! It's one of those reads that takes place in a complex, magical world but very little of it is explained to you. Terms and places are thrown at you that you just have to accept, which I really enjoyed! It felt like a little teaser of this interesting world that was so much bigger than this one location. The descriptions of the different kinds of magic were inventive and interesting. The setting was so atmospheric. The restaurant and its occupants were lovingly described, but above all else was the food! Each dish featured on the menu during this single night is shown a lot of care, giving step by step descriptions of how its made. Again, it made me so hungry, but it was really enjoyable and cozy to read about. I especially appreciated the fact that all of the recipes are featured at the end of the book! I've never tried Malaysian cuisine before but these descriptions definitely made me want to try out these recipes! Overall, this is a short, contemplative read that gives a glimpse into a unique world with descriptions of delicious food and interesting characters. Thank you to the author for the copy of this book.”
