José Argüelles José Argüelles 1939-2011 José Argüelles was an author, artist, and educator who founded Planet Art Network and the Foundation for the Law of Time. As one of the originators of the Earth Day concept, Argüelles helped organize an "art happening" that led in 1971 to the first Whole Earth Festival, now in its 40th year. He held a PhD in Art History and Aesthetics from the University of Chicago.
