Slightly Smiling Face“Enjoyed this book reading about peoples' life experiences”
“I really enjoyed this book. I don't really listen to the podcast so I hadn't heard most of these stories. Even though they are based on live performances, they don't read like transcriptions for the most part; the editors did a good job turning them into essays. I went back and listened to the podcast version of one of them (Joyce Maynard's "One Good Man") and found that the audio recording was slightly different, which I think is a good thing as it can be difficult to read a direct transcription of an audio performance. Some of these stories are horrifying and haunting, some simply heartbreaking. Many of them will stay with me for a while. I'm going to start listening to the podcast, although I do enjoy reading the stories as essays. There is a new book coming out and I already pre-ordered it.”
