“(listened to this as an audiobook)
what a fucking read. I usually don’t listen to audio books, i love reading off a page and “seeing” the setting or scene but Kushner fully absorbed me into the story, and i could “see” just like i was reading.
i’m always a little wary of narratives that feel a little too much like a trauma dump, as those can capitalize on experiences that real people have and live through. I have mixed feelings about the trauma baked into the women’s experiences, but also felt that it was very candid and very honest, and didn’t veer into overly exaggerated, trauma p*rn writing.”Felicia

“there is not a lot of dialogue in this book and the paragraphs/chapters jump around so much i had such a hard time following. really wasn’t interested until the last like 60 pages. took me so long to get through and just glad to be finished.. thinking literary fiction isn’t for me??”

About Rachel Kushner
Rachel Kushner is the author of the New York Times bestseller Creation Lake, her latest novel; The Hard Crowd, her acclaimed essay collection; and the internationally bestselling novels The Mars Room, The Flamethrowers, and Telex from Cuba, as well as a book of short stories, The Strange Case of Rachel K. She has won the Prix Médicis and been a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Folio Prize, and was twice a finalist for the Booker Prize and the National Book Award in Fiction. Creation Lake was also longlisted for the National Book Award. She is a Guggenheim Foundation Fellow and the recipient of the Harold D.
