Publisher Description

There is a secret organization that cultivates teenage spies. The agents are called Love Interests because getting close to people destined for great power means getting valuable secrets.

Caden is a Nice: The boy next door, sculpted to physical perfection. Dylan is a Bad: The brooding, dark-souled guy, and dangerously handsome. The girl they are competing for is important to the organization, and each boy will pursue her. Will she choose a Nice or the Bad?

Both Caden and Dylan are living in the outside world for the first time. They are well-trained and at the top of their games. They have to be – whoever the girl doesn’t choose will die.

What the boys don’t expect are feelings that are outside of their training. Feelings that could kill them both.

The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich is a gay YA thriller that is non-stop action from start to finish.

Expressionless Face“I started this one with such high hopes because the plot was such a cool concept! The idea about people that are changed in order to be sent on spy missions and try and get people to fall in love with them for espianoge is absolutely insane. I thought it was going to be so cool to see the two love interests fall in love with each other rather than their target. However, the story kind of read like bad fanfiction. There wasn’t enough development in their relationship to make their running away seem worth it in the end for me. It wasn’t like there was any real longing and none of their dialogue or actions felt organic to me. So while I had high hopes this one didn’t really hit the spot for me.”
Thumbs Up“It was decent. I would’ve liked it more when I was younger lol. My main “issue” was that the dialogue all sounded very similar regardless of the character, so when there was no tagline after it telling me who said it I was confused at points. Other than that it was good.”
“*WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS* *Rounded to 3.75* This was honestly just a fast, fun read. It had such an interesting concept, but the execution could have been a little better. I loved the idea of these love interests being sent to woo the person and that they were pitted against each other and used the typical cliches in most romances: the sweet "Nice" guy who probably already had some connection to the main character, and the "Bad" boy who just comes in out of nowhere and the main character is fascinated by him. And I loved the idea that the two love interests were falling for each other. That was great. However, I just wanted a little more. I wanted to see more of the competition between Caden and Dyl, because as it stands the book focused mostly on Caden and Dyl's developing relationship. Which I appreciate on the one hand, but the competition was the main part of the book; I wanted to see more of how those two were trying to woo Juliet. Overall I just wanted more. I would have been more than happy if the book had been a bit longer, because I wanted to see things drawn out and explained a little more. But it's not a bad read by any means; I clearly flew through it, and there were a lot of cute, squeal-worthy moments. I just wanted a bit more of the threatening, competition aspect that was promised.”
