The Library at Hellebore

By Cassandra Khaw
The Library at Hellebore by Cassandra Khaw digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

A deeply dark academia novel from USA Today bestselling author Cassandra Khaw, perfect for fans of A Deadly Education and The Atlas Six who are hungry for something a little more diabolical.

The Hellebore Technical Institute for the Gifted is the premier academy for the dangerously the Anti-Christs and Ragnaroks, the world-eaters and apocalypse-makers.

Hellebore promises redemption, acceptance, and a normal life after graduation. At least, that’s what Alessa Li is told when she’s kidnapped and forcibly enrolled.

But there’s more to Hellebore than meets the eye. On graduation day, the faculty go on a ravenous rampage, feasting on Alessa’s class. Only Alessa and a group of her classmates escape the carnage. Trapped in the school’s library, they must offer a human sacrifice every night, or else the faculty will break down the door and kill everyone.

Can they band together and survive, or will the faculty eat its fill?

Also by Cassandra Khaw:
The Salt Grows Heavy
Nothing But Blackened Teeth
A Song for Quiet
Hammers on Bone
The Dead Take the A Train (co-written with Richard Kadrey)

The Library at Hellebore Reviews

“you know what? sure, comprehension is overrated! this was ‘a deadly education’ on steroids, and i mean that as a compliment. i was so thoroughly entertained, i read this compulsively. yet, when i stopped, my thoughts started swirling and i realised i really cared about these characters, what they said and the meaning behind what they did not say. i laughed, but it hurt a little. in the end, who are the monsters?”
“I did not know what was going on, or what I was reading. But I was grossed out and thrilled in the same time. I don’t even know don’t ask 😭”
“Well that was a blood bath. Dark academia, with emphasis on dark. Really enjoyed the process of reading it but ngl I have a lot of questions and most weren't answered. The world building that is there is fascinating, the glimpses you get to how the magic works is really interesting, but nothing is really explained. And that is okay, even though I want to know more. The gore in this one is something else. Creative and brutal. Really heavy on the body horror and Cannibalism. I enjoyed how descriptive it was but I can see why some people didn't. Having read one of her other works, i think that's just how she likes to write which is fair enough. It does give a dreamlike quality to it, too much detail and not enough all at once. A bloody fever dream.”
