Publisher Description

From beloved, RITA-award-winning author Kennedy Ryan comes the first in her gripping All the King's Men duology.

In a world of haves and have-nots, Maxim Cade's family and their oil empire have it all…and he wants nothing to do with it. At odds with his mogul father, he's determined to build his own empire, even if it means traveling far from home, painted as the black sheep.

Lennix Hunter is the exception to every one of Maxim's rules. At a protest for the oil pipeline that threatens to mar her ancestral land forever, they meet in a flurry of stars and sparks, and that one moment changes everything. But Maxim's family is the one stealing from hers, and his father is the man she hates most. He has to lie in order to have her once, and despite the truth, he'll do anything to keep her.

Even though Lennix tries to hate Maxim, too, their hearts are pointed in the same direction. The inexorable pull between them, across miles and years, will not be denied.

And neither will Maxim.

“This was fun to read. I would rate it a 3.75⭐️ . The characters were really interesting especially Kimba”
“4.5/5 Stars!!! From the moment I opened this book, I was hooked! I was so invested in both Max and Lennix as individuals and as a couple. They both wanted to make the world better and it was wonderful to see them both do it. I am so distraught after the cliffhanger! I am not one for politics but Lennix and Max's story and chemistry made me embrace that part of the story. This is the kind of book that will make you keep turning page after page. Kennedy has a way of keeping you interested and her writing was exquisite. Now I will impatiently wait for the re-release of the second book and I am jealous of anyone who got to read these books when they first came out! I highly recommend this book if you want to read about a woman fighting for her ancestors and future Indian generations, a man who wants to do better than his father and who wants to create a healthier world, and their chemistry and passion that will light the pages on fire! “Am I on a Kennedy Ryan kick since reading Before I Let Go? Yes I am! The Kingmaker is a story about unexpected love and two people who are woven into a series of obstacles. You have an indigenous fmc fighting to protect her people. Then you have the mmc who is fighting to protect the earth, but still happens to be a part of the wrong side. This was another great one for me. These romances are giving me life right now. I love how when reading this book, I envision just whirlwind and chaos swirling around these two amazing people. The relevant story of the dangers that indigenous women face each and every day was told so well. Then you have this guy from a wealthy family with a heart of gold. Their whole relationship is like a tug of war. Their trying to be in it, but life is just pulling back. If you like reading romance, you definitely need to read Kennedy Ryan books! I'm such a fan and am already onto book 2 of this series!”
“struggling with how i feel about this book. i flew through it but i’m conflicted. i’m not usually into political stories especially when it’s things i feel alittle indifferent about. but their stories actually had me wanting to read more. the ending through me for a loop. it was a conflicting story of two people from two sides of life trying to make it work. but i also found her to be very hypocritical. being pissed at maxim for lying to her. when all she did was lie to him after she found out who his dad was. and then working for his brother and not forgiving him. so i found her to be very annoying and maybe that’s why part of me doesn’t like the book. the ending was not what i expected at all. i probably would recommend this to people.”
“As much as a love romance this was not the book for me. For starters, It was insta love and I despise that trope.”
