“DNF a tiny bit under halfway through
I am not coming into this as a Hardy or Glitsky fan, and I haven't read anything by Lescroart before. This is the 15th book in the series. It obviously favors readers who are familiar with these characters, and I'm at a disadvantage coming into this cold. I picked it up from the community book box because it looked mildly interesting.
I don't really care about any of these characters, except I feel a bit of pity for Hal. I found the plot too slow as a result. The book has this tacky, plasticky veneer that you so often find in detective/spy/law enforcement/legal stories aimed at boomer men: one-liners, a lingering emphasis on women's appearances when introducing them, main characters who lack any real flaws. There's nothing offensive or off-putting in this book, I just don't care. Giving it to my dad.”
