“The book kept you captivated, but at times there were potholes and it became confusing with government’s involvement.
I don’t think it was one of Donnelly’s best books.
I gave it four stars for the twists & unexpected connections.”

“Unread shelf project 2025: book 24.
4.5 stars.
Such a good intro to a courtroom drama/action series! I was not expecting to be as blown away by this book as I was. David Sloane is a fascinating character and yes, probably somewhat the flawed stereotype that you expect from Grisham-style books… but still. I’m glad that I have further books to look forward to. The pace of this one was fast throughout and kept me hooked.”

Robert Dugoni graduated from Stanford University with a degree in journalism and clerked as a reporter for the Los Angeles Times befor attending the UCLA School of Law. He has practiced law in San Francisco and Seattle for 17 years. In 1999 he left full-time practice to return to writing and is a two-time winner of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Award. He lives with his wife and two children in Seattle.
