The Jumbie God's Revenge

By Tracey Baptiste
The Jumbie God's Revenge by Tracey Baptiste digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

 “A tremendous return.” –Kirkus Reviews

Return to a world of Caribbean folklore, daring adventure, and ancient magic in this heart-pounding installment of the Jumbies series, from New York Times bestselling author Tracey Baptiste.

Huracan summons the wind and rain and wields lightning like a sword. He doesn’t miss and he never falters. He will destroy everything in his path if he desires.

When an out-of-season hurricane sweeps through Corinne’s seaside village, she knows it’s not an ordinary storm. At first Corinne believes Mama D’Leau, the powerful and cruel jumbie who rules the ocean, has caused the hurricane. Then an even more ferocious storm wrecks the island, sending villagers fleeing their houses for shelter in the mountains, and Corinne discovers the chaos wasn’t caused by a jumbie, but by an angry god, Huracan.

Corinne, with the help of her friends and even some of her enemies, must race against time to find out what has angered Huracan and try to fix it before her island home is destroyed forever.

The Jumbie God’s Revenge blends Caribbean and West African tales to present powerful themes of community and heroism in a thrilling action adventure.

The Jumbie God's Revenge Reviews

3.5
Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“This author, these books, these characters, and these stories are everything to me, though late in life for me, but I am glad that these books were written for children, now. Nothing better than a story where all children are represented, loved, supported, and taken care of. Nothing better than a story to tell about culture. I can at least say that I had stories like this growing up, though they were few. I am happy this author remembers being a child, her roots, and chose to record it for all children and for it to live on longer in written word. Blessings to her and to children all over the world.”
“Wow, I can’t believe I’ve come to the end of The Jumbies series. The adventure of this book was multifaceted and I thoroughly enjoyed that! Our FMC, Corinne, continues to learn more about herself and her jumbie powers. Ancient history and secrets are revealed that impact the fate of the island and its inhabitants. Of the three books, this one did feel a little incomplete (maybe there’s more). I really liked diving into more Afro-Caribbean folklore and mythology! Family is not always defined by blood but by respect, community, love, and acceptance! This story really embraces the importance of connection and being in community with each other (jumbie, human, or half-jumbie). Their survival literally is dependent upon them coming together as one. Lastly, there’s a strong theme of “sacrificing for the greater good!” 👩🏾‍🦱🧌🧜🏾‍♀️🧝🏿‍♀️🔥🌪️⚡️🌨️🌬️”
“Such a beautiful description of myths and legends. I absolutely adored the characters of this book series. This is such a wonderful story about a young girl coming into her power and the strength, as well as the joy of family and friends. How to be kind and embrace those that are different from you. 😇”
