“climate fiction that isn't just straight up communist propaganda is probably not gonna work for me. the book is bland and the characters are not interesting, even the divorce angst and the potential toxic yuri couldn't save it. the ideas are not fleshed out well, the author doesn't know how to work on a novella format. and it's painfully obvious that a millennial white woman wrote this. the bit where the story said indigenous people were more vulnerable to the illness was questionable. there are some vague allusion to colonialism being the driving force of climate change, and then there's a little prompt to question why the main illness in this book didn't start sooner, didn't start with the wars and with the killing of indigenous people, but the WHITE main character only note it to learn more about later and it's never brought up again. like??? ok”
