The Idea of You

By Robinne Lee
The Idea of You by Robinne Lee digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Now an original movie on Prime Video starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine!

When Solène Marchand, the thirty-nine-year-old owner of a prestigious art gallery in Los Angeles, takes her daughter, Isabelle, to meet her favorite boy band, she does so reluctantly and at her ex-husband’s request. The last thing she expects is to make a connection with one of the members of the world-famous August Moon. But Hayes Campbell is clever, winning, confident, and posh, and the attraction is immediate. That he is all of twenty years old further complicates things.

What begins as a series of clandestine trysts quickly evolves into a passionate relationship. It is a journey that spans continents as Solène and Hayes navigate each other’s disparate worlds: from stadium tours to international art fairs to secluded hideaways in Paris and Miami. And for Solène, it is as much a reclaiming of self, as it is a rediscovery of happiness and love. When their romance becomes a viral sensation, and both she and her daughter become the target of rabid fans and an insatiable media, Solène must face how her new status has impacted not only her life, but the lives of those closest to her.

Expressionless Face“I wanted this story to be something that it wasn't. What I didn't want to read about was a lustful relationship without having built an actual emotional connection before intimacy. But, that's not the story that was being set out to be told and yes it was spicy, yes it was sort of fun... but, the relationship being portrayed was frustrating to me, personally. I'd like to one day see an (legal adult) age gap relationship portrayed that isn't like a midlife crisis or a horny indulgence. I'm not surprised how this book ended--but my first thought was after finishing "I hated that".”
Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“I’m so torn about this book. I devoured it as fast as possible because I wanted to watch the movie, and yeah, I know it’s a Harry Styles fanfic—but Hayes? Total Zayn vibes, and I wasn’t mad about it. There’s so much I loved. Hayes was witty, charming, and I loved how deeply he invested himself in Soléne. Like, he really went all in. Sure, he’s young and occasionally had the emotional range of a cardboard box, yet he was surprisingly mature in their relationship—definitely more so than Soléne. He knew how to lead, he was patient, and honestly, his only real flaw was being young. Soléne, though, was complicated. A very complex character. Her fears about aging and balancing her life were valid, and I totally get where she was coming from. But at the same time, she constantly got in her own way. She was way too guarded and often immature in the relationship, which made it hard to root for her sometimes. I wanted to shake her half the time and be like, "Girl, just let yourself live a little!" Life’s a juggling act, sure, but she was dropping balls left and right. Now, do I think a 40 year old and a 20 year old could actually work it out in real life? Probably not. The logistics alone are a nightmare. But did I root for them anyway? Oh, 100%. Against all logic and reason, I wanted them to beat the odds, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. What I really loved about this book was how thought-provoking it was. It made me reflect on the struggles women face as they age, especially when it comes to love, self-worth, and balancing it all. It hit close to home for me since I’m also dealing with some of those feelings. So, while I loved the book for what it made me think and feel, I didn’t always like it. And that ending? It hurt—but I guess that’s part of why it sticks with me.”
