The House Without Lights Reviews

4.0
“"How come we don't have Christmas lights?" Muslim kids often ask this question in the holiday season, and some Muslim parents struggle to answer this. In this story, the house itself asks the question as a Muslim family settles in. House learns that no Christmas lights doesn't mean that the house has nothing special happening... and soon enough, Eid comes around and a very special time is had. Ngl I have mixed feelings about this book, bc I'm not super keen on the whole "Muslims are just like everybody else, but different!" esp when it comes to the holidays. Even so, there's nothing explicitly problematic about this book, so beyond my own Salafi grinch-ness, there's nothing else I can really say. It's an okay story with an okay message, and some folks will appreciate it more than others. I can see it as a helpful teaching tool in public schools to explain things to nonMuslim kids in particular. 3.75/ 5”
