Publisher Description

THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Named a most-anticipated summer book by USA Today, People, E! News, Cosmopolitan, PureWow, CNN.com, New York Post, CrimeReads, POPSUGAR, and more

The bestselling author of Final Girls and Survive the Night is back with his “best plot twist yet.” (People, "Best Summer Books")

Be careful what you watch for . . .

Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press, has retreated to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of bourbon, she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous couple living in the house across the lake. They make for good viewing—a tech innovator, Tom is powerful; and a former model, Katherine is gorgeous.

One day on the lake, Casey saves Katherine from drowning, and the two strike up a budding friendship. But the more they get to know each other—and the longer Casey watches—it becomes clear that Katherine and Tom’s marriage isn’t as perfect as it appears. When Katherine suddenly vanishes, Casey immediately suspects Tom of foul play. What she doesn’t realize is that there’s more to the story than meets the eye—and that shocking secrets can lurk beneath the most placid of surfaces.

Packed with sharp characters, psychological suspense, and gasp-worthy plot twists, Riley Sager’s The House Across the Lake is the ultimate escapist read . . . no lake house required.

Thumbs Up“I read this book as it was trending but I didn’t get the same feel yeah it’s twist was kinda fine but characters were not as much. Though the setting was good. I feel the author could have done more justice but overall it’s ok for Mystery readers. I respect opinions.”

Expressionless Face“This book was just ok for me. I think that I have been in a funky reading mood lately and it is truthfully clouding my judgement. I found the beginning of this story to be fairly slow. It took me a while to get into it. It did pick up for the second half of the book which made it much more enjoyable. I think this on strayed from the formula more than any of his other books. I also enjoyed this one. With that said, there was just something about it that I didn't love.”

Thinking Face“I was not expecting this to end up being a paranormal novel??? I think just because of that it really threw me off and the ending felt really far fetched. I did enjoy trying to figure out what was going to happen though. I was on the edge of my seat.”

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“I enjoyed the book and read it in one day but I feel like the story came apart in the end. The Len storyline was pretty far fetched and then Tom coming back again for more was like, okay we get it. And no explanation for Casey, like the law was able to overlook her killing 2 people.”
