Publisher Description

Thomas Senlin and his crew of outcasts have been separated, and now they must face the dangers of the labyrinthine tower on their own in this third book in the word-of-mouth phenomenon fantasy series.

"One of my favorite books of all time." -- Mark Lawrence on Senlin Ascends
Fearing an uprising, the Sphinx sends Senlin to investigate a plot that has taken hold in the ringdom of Pelphia. Alone in the city, Senlin infiltrates a bloody arena where hods battle for the public's entertainment. But his investigation is quickly derailed by a gruesome crime and an unexpected reunion.

Posing as a noble lady and her handmaid, Voleta and Iren attempt to reach Marya, who is isolated by her fame. While navigating the court, Voleta attracts the unwanted attention of a powerful prince whose pursuit of her threatens their plan.

Edith, now captain of the Sphinx's fierce flagship, joins forces with a fellow wakeman to investigate the disappearance of a beloved friend. She must decide who to trust as her desperate search brings her nearer to the Black Trail where the hods climb in darkness and whisper of the Hod King.

As Senlin and his crew become further dragged in to the conspiracies of the Tower, everything falls to one question: Who is The Hod King?

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“this one was insane! I know the books become longer as the series progresses, but this book somehow felt three times as long as it actually was - not because it was boring, for surely it was not, but because of just how many things occurred in such a short period of time! I absolutely loved this one more than The Arm of the Sphinx, I still hold Senlin Ascends at the highest level to compare to, so while although this one wasn’t as perfect to me as the first book was, I absolutely devoured this book & I actually CAN wait to dive into the next one, simply because I don’t want this series to end 😭 (I actually started The Fall of Babel but put it on hold to read some other books just to avoid having to commit to the end of this story). Josiah Bancroft is a magician. I could never imagine such a creative & genius world. I’ll never not recommend these books!!”
“Easily the best in the series so far! I’ve got two main complaints with this book. First, I didn’t love that we basically saw the same time frame 3 different times from 3 different characters. The first POV from Senlin is awesome but then we hop back in time to get a perspective from Voleta and we do the same for Edith. By the time you reset for the third time, it’s boring and it’s not like you learn enough new information each time that’s it’s worth it. Second, it made no sense to me why the Duke wouldn’t kill Senlin other than the series would be over without its main character. Then not only does he not kill him, but he also sends him on the black trail with John (who I love btw). That exchange just made no sense to me. It’s not like the Duke didn’t have it in him to kill Senlin. Those two points are why this isn’t a 5⭐️ book but it’s still a banger! Loved all of Senlin’s POV and the ending was so good. Loved Pelphia getting absolutely wrecked in the end. Extra loved Edith just walking into the Duke’s home and taking Marya. That was so satisfying! Thank you Edith for ending that absurd kidnapping. Excited for the series finale!”
Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“READ THIS SERIES. NOW! This was a fantastic book. Bancroft’s beautiful prose is a strength on its own, and when combined with this completely original story filled with deeply layered characters and relevant themes, we get a true masterpiece of a series here. I haven’t read anything quite like this, and I love it so much for that. After thoroughly enjoying the first book and then feeling just okay about the second one, I was unsure heading into this one which direction it would go. I am just so happy that it excelled in nearly every way. While this series won’t be for *everyone*, I do think it has very broad appeal and most everyone should give it a try. The characters are so well written, the world such an adventure, and there’s quotable lines all over the place. I cannot wait to see how this concludes in the final book, and I will definitely be pushing this series on people whenever I can now. A truly excellent book.”
