The Hobbit

By J.R.R. Tolkien & J.R.R. Tolkien
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien & J.R.R. Tolkien digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

J.R.R. Tolkien's classic prelude to his Lord of the Rings trilogy...

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.

Written for J.R.R. Tolkien's own children, The Hobbit has sold many millions of copies worldwide and established itself as a modern classic.

Slightly Smiling Face“I have such fondness for this book. This is a re-read for me and I still love this book. It's a classic that has stood the test of time for almost 88 years. I find the characters in the book very charming. I always felt a wee bit sorry for Bilbo because he just wanted to be at home in his wee Hobbit Hole enjoying a quiet life. I get that. Instead he's thrown into the throng with Thorin Oakenshield and his Dwarf colleagues. I like the Dwarves, they're charming. Gandalf is alright but he could be a wee bit rude at times. All side characters were great. The story was just lovely. Yes I know there's battles and peril but it's just so charming. I'm sorry for the excessive use of this word but there really is nothing else I can say to describe it. It keeps the reader engaged and turning the page to see what Bilbo and his friends will do next. The book is told in the style of a narrator. No specific POVs from the characters. It worked for this book. If you've never read this then I cannot recommend it enough. It's a timeless classic and will always be worth a read.”
Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“It was a funny read for those nights when I wanted to relax. Does not have the same complexity of the LORT trilogy because J.R.R Tolkien wrote this a child book with lots of adventures. One of the first classics and fantasy book I read and no book has given me the great time I had while reading it.”
