“I have such mixed feelings about The Good Samaritan… and somehow that’s exactly why I enjoyed it so much.
This is one of those books that completely got under my skin. Not because it was scary in the traditional sense, but because of the villain. After reading 40 thrillers so far this year, I can honestly say this is one of the most ruthless, manipulative, and unforgettable villains I’ve ever come across. Every time I thought there had to be a line they wouldn’t cross… I was wrong.
What really impressed me is how uncomfortable this story makes you feel. It dives into some very heavy subjects, so I absolutely recommend checking the trigger warnings before picking it up. This isn’t a light thriller—it explores dark themes that can be emotionally difficult to read.
So why not a full five stars?
Because, despite how much I loved the story, it took me three weeks to finish something I expected to read in one. There were sections that felt slower than they needed to be, and I occasionally found myself losing momentum before the story grabbed me again. Once it reaches the middle, though… wow. From there, I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.
The ending left me with so many emotions. I’ll stay spoiler-free, but let’s just say I kept hoping someone, somehow, would finally be able to stand up to this villain. That’s how powerful this character is. They completely dominate the story from beginning to end.
Overall, The Good Samaritan is disturbing, clever, psychologically intense, and unlike any thriller I’ve read recently. It won’t be for everyone because of its subject matter, but if you enjoy dark psychological thrillers with unforgettable villains and morally uncomfortable stories, this one is absolutely worth experiencing.”
