“I thought I would enjoy this book more than I did. I almost stopped reading about halfway through. Ryan Cusack is a great character study, now that I have reached the end of it, but there was a lot of this book that was rather boring.
Maureen is the star of the show and the commentary she gives on Irish society and how it treats women is astounding and is worth reading the book for alone. Georgie was interesting until she became extremely whingey and annoying, showing that deep down she was even more selfish than Ryan.
The relationship between Ryan and Karine has fizzled out for me. They are extremely toxic and their scenes dragged and really made me struggle to keep reading. The book dragged for the last 100 pages and the explosive climax I was expecting was a dud.
While I loved the writing style and aspects of the story, this isn't a book I would read a second time.”
