Publisher Description

This final book in the New York Times-bestselling Fairyland series finds September accidentally crowned the Queen of Fairyland. But there are others who believe they have a fair and good claim on the throne, so there is a Royal Race--whoever wins will seize the crown.

Along the way, beloved characters including the Wyverary, A-Through-L, the boy Saturday, the changelings Hawthorn and Tamburlaine, the wombat Blunderbuss, and the gramophone Scratch are caught up in the madness. And September's parents have crossed the universe to find their daughter.

Who will win? What will become of September, Saturday, and A-Through-L? The answers will surprise you, and are as bewitching and bedazzling as fans of this series by Catherynne M. Valente have come to expect.

“I finished this book with a smile, but tears in my eyes because this is the end of the story. It was a really fantastic ending, though. The Fairyland books are ones you don't want to rush through. They're great to read when you have some time to settle in and absorb all the imagery. This is one of my favorite series ever, and I will be re-reading them for sure in the future (probably more than once).”
“I am a big fan of Catherynne. I've enjoyed all her previous Fairyland books hence why I was so excited to read this one. Unfortunately it didn't deliver. I found the story sort of jumbled up and incoherent. It failed to connect. Only halfway through did I manage to grasp story, or what was left of it. But all is not lost. The end was exciting despite my disappointment about the throne. Recap: September becomes the queen of Fairyland but the other previous kings and queens wanted the throne to themselves. So they have to compete on Catenkerous Derby where they have to find the Heart of Fairyland. If you lose, you'll be send back to wherever you came from. On their way, lots of duels and happening happened which cause Saturday to almost forget them. In the end September and Saturday became Wind. Buss became queen (WHAT? ) and turned out is in relationship with the Wyverary. Story 3/5 Characters 4/5 Development 3/5 Style of writing 3/5 Enjoyment 3/5 Overall 3.2/5”
“This is the best series I have ever read.I'm sad to say goodbye to fairyland for now. Catherine Valente has quickly become a favorite author. I cannot wait until my daughters are old enough for me to read it aloud to them. It's full of strong, female characters, both good and evil. I can't think of a good word to describe the writing, except, maybe lush? It's so full and evocative. I'm ending with my favorite passage. "Let us think of fairyland as a staggering magnificent cake... Let us take a great swaggering knife between us - it will take both our hands - and slice it open to see what we can see inside. For that is all a story of, my dears: a knife that cuts the world into pieces small enough to eat."”
Slightly Smiling Face“I’m very fond of this series. It’s beautifully written, imaginative, with a likeable cast. Definitely worth a reread some time down the road.”
