Ray Cummings was the working name of US writer Raymond King Cummings, author of over 600 stories under various names. His most prolific period was between 1935 and 1942, when he wrote more than half of these works. He is rated as one of the "founding fathers of the science fiction pulp genre". Cummings was a personal assistant to Thomas Edison and a technical writer from 1914 to 1919. His most highly regarded work was The Girl in the Golden Atom, published in 1922, which was an expanded version of a short story of the same name, published three years earlier.
